MyWebSearch Badware – MWSBAR.DLL

Mswbar.dll is a browser toolbar that installs with the MyWebSearch toolbar. You may have gotten this by installing any number of products like Zwinky, FunWebProducts, Smiley Central Screenavers and others. This toolbar comes along without much notice.

The toolbar does add search features but the search results you see will include advertisements provided by mywebsearch.com. The real danger is that this toolbar may allow other controls to be downloaded without your approval. IAC Interactive denies this but does include a disclaimer that "You must be 13 years of age or older to register or use the MyWebSearch toolbar".

We'd recommend removing it. Please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove any of these that are present: "My Search Bar", "My Web Search Bar", "Popswatter", "SmileyCentral", "My Mail Stamp", "Search Assistant", "My Speedbar" and "Fun Web Products Easy Installer". New versions of MyWebSearch may be removed completely in this manner.

Make sure to read the Uninstall dialog. You must check the box above to complete removal.

To disable this program without rebooting go to "Active Tasks" tab. Kill any of the following files that appear there: mwsoemon.exe, s4bar.dll, s42ns.exe, s4bareq.exe, my2ns.exe, mysrchas.dll, NPMyWay.dll, and mwsbar.dll.
Next, please click on your "IE Helpers" tab. Remove: s4bar.dll, mysrchas.dll, NPMyWay.dll, and mwsbar.dll.
Finally, go to your "Startup Programs" tab and remove: mwsoemon.exe, mwsbar.dll, s42ns.exe, s4bareq.exe, and my2ns.exe.
